Courtney Sever

Postdoctoral Researcher

Courtney is originally from Miami, Florida. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. During her time as an undergrad, she participated in the NSF REU program and worked under Dr. Orlando Acevedo to derive, train, and update a BOSS-Gaussian software package to incorporate Atomic Energy (AENET) machine learning. In the Fall of 2020, Courtney joined the University of Florida’s inorganic chemistry division, working under Dr. Adam Veige. Courtney’s doctoral work focused on developing a new class of cyclic polymer catalyst through both experimental and computational results. After uncovering the mechanism for this new class, new designer monomers were made to test their topological differences in cyclic and linear polymers. Courtney defended her thesis in Spring 2026 and moved down the hall into the Evans research lab. Outside of the lab she enjoys her two cats, Beaker and Bunsen, going to Disney World, playing the piano and baking sourdough bread.
