Nirshad Alam

Postdoctoral Researcher

Nirshad Alam earned his PhD at CSIR-NCL Pune, India in June 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Pradip Maity. His PhD research focused on stereoselective molecular rearrangements for the synthesis of complex molecules. In December 2022, Nirshad joined the PowerCat Lab (Prof. Socrates Munoz) at K-State as a postdoctoral researcher, where he explored new frontiers in organofluorine chemistry and in C–C and C–X bond-forming reactions using TM-catalysts. In 2024, Nirshad took the next step in his career by moving to the University of Florida to join Prof. Bill Dolbier’s lab, where he continues his groundbreaking work in organofluorine chemistry and developed the DTST and DDST reagents, an excellent source of the SCF2H group. In 2026, Nirshad joined the Evans research group, and he is excited to learn new techniques to introduce organofluorine into environmental polymer chemistry. Outside of the lab, he enjoys cricket, spending time with friends, and channeling his inner Captain Jack Sparrow as he goes “fishing” for novel chemical transformations.
